First Game Demolition...

First Game Summary

[Edited due to me being rubbish and Clive getting a cob-on]

Games: Mens (A,B) Vs Dorset, Mens C & Ladies Vs Wiltshire

Welcome to the season...

It has been an awesome start to the season, with all the Mens Teams winning well and the ladies coming through with a draw against a tough side...couple of things before we recount our glories for the day...

Committee

The North Somerset Pool Team Committee is:

Malcolm Dorrington (Chair), Dave Cryer, Lee Kerslake, Craig Pursey, Tony Noon, Pat Donovan, Clive Bentley (plus his Seniors Vice if not above), Vicky Gallichan (plus her Ladies Vice as nominated), Merran/Kev (either can represent as the Venue member)

We are still working through trying to make this committee system work, so please bear with us but if there is stuff we need to address it goes through the committee.

Newsletter and Website

The Newsletter is now going to be this blog; it fits with the website, means we can add pictures/videos etc in future and means you all have to come to the website to read it... otherwise none of you lazy sods will I'm sure. With the website there's a few things we want to be able to do - I planned on taking pictures of you all individually to get on here in the squad page, however me not getting there much before and the way the day went it didnt make sense to interupt the day with me and my camera... I will however be looking to do this in an upcoming match. If you dont want your picture taken no problem, I'll find some butt-ugly picture of some character and use that instead.

We want this website and the facebook page to keep growing so please use it, register on both and make sure you let us know if there's more we need on here. There will be easy access to stats and details for the season here. Anyway, to the games:

Match Reports

Mens C - 26-10 win.

We normally start As, Bs, Cs, Ladies on this thing, but with a performance like the one we had today from the Cs, it warrants being the headliner... The C team met each other today, and promptly delivered 'a can' on the arses of the Dorset players. An immense display from a number of the players, with the squad showing not just how strong they are, but how strong the whole County setup is now.

Tony and Pat are safe pairs of hands for this new team, and from what we saw they are leading a fantastic group that are an asset to the squad. Tony wanted everyone to be recognised for the fantatsic team spirit on the day and how proud he was to have led such a great game today.

The stand out player for the day had to be Duncan Smith who, on his first venture into County in the mighty North Somerset colours, promptly dispatched a break and dish on his opponent. NO doubt a sign of things to come.

Mens A - 23-13 Win

The As are getting used to winning, and this year produced another strong game against a team we have to beat well to be considered contenders. We did that with ease. With some bickering from the opposition about the 'mass of luck' and inexplicable ability to pot the black before they did, regularly, we showed we're a stronger team than ever.

Not least thanks to the arrival of a pooling legend, the one and only Jamie Ross... the Slayer of Slayers, the Somerset Storm, the Inevitable Doom, the Cheddar Chipmunk... Not just being a top bloke, he dispatched with ease two of their finest in style. With strong players absent, we showed the depth of squad and the way our A team is growing.

One thing the Razor Ross could do for us is show Sean Des O'Connor how to win by aiming... yet, despite this inner desire to destroy each frame he played, Sean's performance has to be the stand out for the match, with four from four. Top of the region after one game... he'll take that...

Mens B - 20-16 win

It used to be the scariest thing about the B team was the shaven monster that is the Chewmeister, but they've now got something that scares the opposition more... the teamsheet.

You have to look at the quality; under the leadership of Psycho Pursey and with signings in Keysall and Nuggsy, who showed themselves at ease in their first game, it's surely only a question of how far they get in nationals rather than if they make it...

I thought the stand-out results of the day went to The Bentley and Chewy, both 4 from 4, however Clive has raised the fact that Chewy aint as good as him and only got 3 from 4. He sent me photographic evidence and, you know what, he's right... Anyway, Bentley, here's a little look at what you could look like in a years time if you keep this going... frightening isnt it?

Ladies - Drew 14-14

Putting on a great show after waiting an eternity for the ignorant blokes to get off the tables, a final push saw them take the draw from a good Wiltshire side. Rather than me spout on, here's an addition from Vicky

"Laides Drew 14-14 Very well played today ladies, we we're an hour behind but played well anyway! Some fantastic games but it was close all day, we lost the first leg 4-3 pulled it back and won the second leg 4-3 we lost it abit in the third leg 4-3 and won the last leg with two awesome games from Mandy and Kerry to win the last leg 4-3! Was a very close game well done to all of you today. Lady of the match Has to go to Nat and sue who we're showing off and won all 4 of there games!! Well done girls xx"

Well done to everyone today, huge push from the team and a great start to the campaign... next match is May 10th away to Somerset for the As and Bs, Hampshire for Cs and Ladies.
