Toughest Journey of the Year

Well, it's late and I wasnt gong to do one, but as Vicky has gone to the trouble of doing it I will quickly knock this up. It's short, it's rubbish, but here's the news...

Mens A 18-18

It was always going to be tough... a massive day in terms of opposition, but a game no one expects to win, do they?

After an opening few games that made everyone feel like they would be reaching for the Vaseline, the set felt like it was flying away, but we managed to claw a few and lose 6-3. That seemed to flatter us.

But from there things started to turn, a 5-4 win in the next and a 6-3 in the third and suddenly Gimp turned Zed... and we were 14-13 up. We had chances to win in the last, but in the end we had to be happy with an 18-18 draw. Destiny, a few missed opportunities and of course PP meant although we can be very proud of our well earned point, we cant but feel like it could have been more.

A game no one expects to win? Not from now on...

The star of the show had to be Olly, with 4/4 smashing his way through the opposition.

Mens B lost 27-9

It was a good job that the As didnt need the Vaseline, as it left a bit more for the Bs...

A tough old day, but when you're playing Bristol you dont really get bad players and quality seemed to shine throughout their squad.

Couple of nightmare sets, main thing being no 9-0s, it's a rare day that you wont see very often. Highlight for the Bs was Captain's pick Kerry, who managed to show class through the day.

Mens C Lost 26-10

Cs did slightly better against another quality side. A struggle right from the off, a couple of poor sets made the following two tricky, but showing some stern stuff in the last two lost closely fought affairs.

Looking at the stats, stand out has to be Matt Wood, who I can only asusme managed to find a couple of games through his pinball style cuemanship. Hit enough cushions and somethings bound to go in, eh Matt?

Seniors 6 vs 19 Bristol SA

Seniors 14 vs 11 Bristol SB

Always a tricky opponent as they have some tough players to beat and as we play our matches at the same time, things get might confusing with players swapping between tables.

Anyway, against the SA, we started of with a promising first leg, winning 3-2 but then things took a horrible turn with a 5-0 second set drubbing. That then led to a general pattern that saw the match slip away at an agonising rate. Not expecting to see many other beat them so this one was not going to psyc us out.

Against the SB things were a little different with the match played on a much more even keel. Some gritty performances and the winning line was in sight to keep us right in the mix.

High hitters on the day go to Dave Cryer pulling 6 wins from 10 frames, no mean feat being bounced between two tables, and myself hitting 5 from 5.

Ladies 19 Bristol 9 What a game is all I can say, we won the first leg 4-3 with some really unlucky games, lost the second leg 4-3 then pulled it back to win the next two legs 6-1! There were a few issues during the day which didn't help with our concentration but we showed them that nothing was going to stop us! We all played well to take the win! Well done ladies! Bring on Wiltshire A!!!!!! Lady of the match Difficult one to call to be fair...... Sue won 2/2 with an absolute beaut of a black, Kerry, stoner and Sarah all got 3/4, Sarah's game has come a very long way, keep up that hard work hun!

A big well done from the lads, you seem to always pull out the games we tank on and saw a great picture after of a number of you... great team there and no doubt sailing towards nationals.

Peace out peoples...
